Changing the blog settings to suit our needs

We will need to change many of the default settings in Blogger to make our simple brochure site. To change settings in Blogger, you need to go to the Settings tab.

Note: If you make changes to the settings in any of the sub-sections under the Settings tab, you must click the orange Save Settings button at the bottom of the sub-section to apply those changes before moving to another subsection or another tab.

Basic sub-section

Title: The heading that appears on every page of your site.

Description: This appears below the title.

If you want to delete your blog, click the "Delete this blog" button at the end of the Basic sub-section.

Publishing sub-section

Blog*Spot address: This is the URL of your blog.

Formatting sub-section

Show: Set this to "1 post per page" for this exercise, so that your posts will not all appear together on one page.

Comments sub-section

Comments: Set this to "Hide" for this exercise, if you do not want comments to appear on your web site pages.
Who can comment: Set this to "Only members of this blog" if you don't want other people to be able to leave comments on your web site.

Comments default for posts: Set this to "New posts do not have comments" to prevent the comments line appearing at the bottom of your posts.

Archiving sub-section

Archive frequency: Set this to "No archive".

Archiving is a process whereby older posts on a blog are "tidied away" after a specified period. You can still read them, because by default there is a link to the archives in the sidebar. However, because we are setting up our web site to have links to each of our posts in the sidebar, we do not want Blogger to move them to the archive after a week, a month, or whatever, because then the links we have created in our sidebar would not work.

Enable post pages: Set this to "Yes". This means that each post you make will have its own separate web page with a unique address. We need to do this so that we can link to each of the pages in the site from the link list in the sidebar.

Site Feed sub-section

Allow Blog Feeds: Set this to "None" to get rid of the "Subscribe to Posts" message that otherwise appears on every page of your blog.
